Default 2.3 or 2.5 ford
Re:: zetech ,duratech or other

I am in a dilemma on whether or not to rebuild the inline 6 one piece head ,intake design. Or see what it will take to swap a more modern motor auto trans in the 62 econo. Looking at the small 4 cylinder ford motors as they are close proximity to the same cubic inch as what is in it. Looking for any info i may have overlooked as of yet to make an educated decision. Looking at more ease of fitting it into the dog house area with ease of either turboing at a later date or just enjoying the more reliable modern fuel injection option and reliability it brings. Thanks for any help.

I believe some of the Econolines came with the 240 six, which is the little brother of the 300 six. The 300 six would be an easy swap, lot of people do that.

For the 4 cyl swap, a 2.3 liter is only 140 cubic inch range. Do you have the small 144 six in your Econoline? If so the 170 and 200 are larger versions of that same engine and would be an easy bolt-in swap for larger cubes. The modern 4 cyl probably makes as much hp and torque as your stock engine. If you can do the fuel system changes and wiring for fuel injected, i am sure it would be nice driving year round and should get better mileage.

All I can say is I had a 300 in an 72 f100 and it was a strong engine and I wasn't exactly nice to it >:)
But I can see your point on newer power.

My grandfather had one with a 300 six.
They made those motors for MANY years, including efi.

Been contemplating the 300 6 as well due to the ease of swapability. But still need to make mounts either way if i go 300 or 2.3 ford. The other econo options suffer from the same things that the 144 i curently have does. Basically to much money to build them up plus one piece head design, unless you go aluminum head. So i will keep doing more research and see what i decide in a few weeks or a few months depending on money budget for the truck. Thanks for the input and i will keep you updated.

The 300 has a separate intake,
the crappy one piece head/intake
was on the little girly motors.

http://www.fordsix.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=59323

240 mounts will work, the blocks are the same.

They were produced from '65 to '96,
so they shouldn't be too hard to find.

You might find some little 4 cyl that makes
the same HP, but not the same torque.

Now that i am totally confused in my decisions. I think it is leaning towards a bigger inline 6 300. Now to keep reading and make a very informed decision on what i want in the end. Thanks everyone who helped in the more research areas.

Should be possible to swap a carb intake, onto an efi motor,
if you don't want to fool with all the fancy wiring.

Double check if the block has provision for a mechanical fuel pump.

If you go with an automatic, you'll need a short tail section.
