You don't just walk into a fella's garage down the street and start flappin' your lips do ya?

Default New to this site.

Hello all. Dale here from good ol East Texas.
picked up a 96 wagon cheap. runs and looks ok but the po said it was starting to run on the hot side so he decided to replace the thermostat and broke every bolt off in the head. So looks like I may as well pull head and replace gasket as well as check head for damage. Has one heck of an exhaust leak some place, is very loud. ran it long enough to load on dolly and back off into drive. OH the shifter just flops around.

I am into bikes and air cooled vw bugs as well. Disabled Army vet. got 6 kids and 6+ grand kids. Just hang around the house tinkering with my toys as money, time and back allows.
Any suggestions would be helpful as far as this 1.9 goes. I am no escort guy other than had a 94 that we really liked and now this one. Seems from what little I have read I need to just pull this 1.9 and put in a 1.8. Know nothing about swaps on newer cars. most of my engine know how is in the old cars before all the computers and injection. now that I have bored you stiff look forward to getting to know some folks and tearing into this little car. keep safe. Dale
